Urban Ecos offers ecological consulting to cities,
educational institutions, and private companies to make our
cities greener, more sustainable, and more environmentally
sound. Our focus is on the use of natural resources to
improve sustainability.
Principal
The owner and founder of Urban Ecos, Kelaine Vargas, is a
LEED-certified urban ecologist with a background in
landscape architecture and ecology. After attending
graduate school at North Carolina State University, she
traveled to Berlin, Germany, as a Fulbright Scholar to study
urban ecology and the influence design can have on human
interactions with nature. In 2005, she returned to the US to
take a position with the US Forest Service's Center for
Urban Forest Research, studying the environmental benefits
of urban trees. Now she works to apply that knowledge in
real-world applications.
